Meet the Lesson Horses

Leviathan “Levi”

Levi is an old (37!) year old Appaloosa gelding. Levi is an old hand, and has taught hundreds of people to ride. Levi pretends to be a grump, but everybody knows he’s secretly an old softy who loves to be groomed and fussed over! Last year, he took several students through being part of the show team and brought home many ribbons. He particularly enjoys summer camp, and finger painting sessions where he gets turned into a rainbow!

Eclipse

Eclipse is a 6 year old previously feral mustang. We have had him for a several years, and in that time he has made so much progress! He now willingly accepts pets and snuggles, grooming, having his feet handled, accepts a bit and saddle with no fuss, and has generally settled into being a truly special young horse. He has had a handful of successful rides! During lessons, he gets used to teach Groundwork skills, Showmanship, and Ground Driving.

Percival

Percival has joined us as a permanent member of our program! He is a draft/ quarter horse cross and is used regularly for lessons. He is a sweet, laid back kind of guy most of the time- but he does have a sassy side! He is working hard at unlearning some of his old jousting behaviors- bending is hard when you only know how to go in straight lines!

Mr. Darcy

Mr.Darcy earned his name by being tall, dark, handsome, and a real Gentleman! He came to us through the rescue at the same time as Solstice, from the Kill Pen. He was severely malnourished, and it was touch and go there for a while, but we are so happy he pulled through! He still needs to put on some muscle, but he is well on his way!

He is about 16.2 hh, and mid teens. Mr Darcy has joined our lesson program and will stay a part of it until he is adopted out. He tries very hard to do whatever his human wants, be they tiny or big, but does tend to get the zoomies if he has to go slow for too long. We love this big guy!

Calli

Miss Calli, a mid teens quarter horse, is built like a brick house! She came to us initially as a care lease, but since has been released to our care. She loves to work and spend time doing things, and despite her physical limitations due to arthritis, has so much left to teach! Calli is often used for groundwork and lead line lessons.

Ladybug

Lovely little Ladybug is an absolute peach- but don’t be fooled, she has a spunky side too! She can stand for hours getting fussed over by children, then go pop over a cross rail in the arena and then go chase cows. A true versatility pony, Miss Ladybug enjoys spending time with children and herdmates alike.

Noodle

Noodle is a 30 year old mule, and does her absolute best to pack our smallest riders who need an extra dose of gentleness. Under saddle, she is straightforward and no-nonsense. On the ground, she is as wiggly as her namesake! Noodle is a rescue, and was originally an owner surrender.
